Welcome to the Website

Well, this post is an introduction to the website and what I intend to achieve with it, etc.

1 - Why?

For a while now, I had in mind to create a course for a paid website or write a book, something like that, but I wasn’t quite sure. One day the idea of starting a YouTube channel came to me. After a couple of months, I realized that supporting the channel with a website would be the right move. When you look something up online, you search for it in Google, not YouTube.

So, a couple of weeks ago I started working on the website, buying the template, the domain, etc. And here it is. Obviously, there’s still plenty to improve, which I’ll be doing in the coming days, but hey, it’s a good start. The website is on this same domain https://www.netmentor.es/

I want to include many features, but since I’m working solo, it takes a lot of time. Still, the site already has a structure and everything else will be extra functionality. One of the first things I’ll be adding will be an email subscription, but to do that properly I need to make sure I’m not breaking any data protection laws.

2 ... What is this about?

Mainly, I’m going to cover several key topics, all coming from my professional and academic experience. The topics I’ll cover are as follows:

  • Programming and the .NET environment, which I started with the basic programming course, for anyone who wants to dive into programming.
  • Workplace insights, tools that are used, etc. Basically, the important things you encounter in the work environment.
  • News related mainly to the .NET ecosystem. In the end, I can’t cover everything, so I have to narrow it down.
  • Advice for developers. I haven’t started this part yet, but one of the main videos is going to be about how to write a resume. I have the presentation ready and everything, but I just can’t find time to make the video.

In the coming weeks or months I’ll also be adding the two extra sections that the website will contain:

  • Path: the goal of this section is to show what you need to study/learn to reach a certain point. For example, take this, this, and this course to aim for a back-end developer job.
  • Interviews: this section will be very interesting, since the idea is to share real interview processes I’ve gone through, what was included, what questions, what technical exercise, etc. For now, they will be my own interviews, but later I plan to get those from friends too, all real, with real exercises, etc. This section could be very, very useful.
  • Finally, I’ve created a blog section where I’ll post random things, like a review of the laptop I bought a month ago, the Razer Blade Pro 2019.

3 - Frequency

The plan is to release one video/post per week, since all content is 100% created by me and both posts and videos are high quality, so each one takes several hours to prepare and edit.

Some weeks I might release two, like when all the new stuff about .NET and C# was announced. But now in summer I’m taking a break, although it’s really for working on the website, so I’m not sure if I’ll take this break next summer too.

The goal is to release between 40 and 50 videos a year.

And well, that’s it. I’m really happy with my new project and I hope everything goes smoothly. Cheers!
